With the dearth of good employment opportunities plaguing the state, Youth Indians (YI), Nagaland Chapter in collaboration with EduCentre Nagaland, hosted a one day ‘Graduate Career Expo’ at Eastern Christian College (ECC), Padumpukhuri on March 19.
Held at ECC’s multi-purpose hall, the students were given several career options to choose from once they graduated. These included institutes such NIIT, which provides several different courses in computer application and technical support engineer. TRIG Empowering Institute, Guwahati for aviation, hospitality and corporate training. Achievers Academy for NPSC coaching, ALS institute for UPSC coaching and EduCentre Nagaland for providing entrepreneurship courses to budding young talents.
Tackling unemployment at the roots
In a conversation with The Morung Express, Thejasevi Putsure, Co-Chair of YI Nagaland shared that the main objective of such events were to address unemployment in the state. Such outreach programmes was a means through which the students could be guided in the right trajectory after graduation, he added.
“We took the challenge to at least provide the knowledge and counselling to the students in need,” he said while mentioning that unemployment levels have reached disproportionate levels in the state with not enough jobs to go around.
Theja also expressed surprise at the number of responses they got from students, asking for more information in regard to their career prospects. He felt that the enthusiasm was there among the students looking beyond the means of government jobs.
Theja also highlighted that Young Indians (YI) and EduCentre, have organised similar career expos covering 11 different institutes in Kohima and Dimapur. “Our last stop for this year will be at Patkai Christian College before the students graduate at their end semester,” he shared. Over nine different institutes and academies provided brief career consultation sessions for the students at ECC.
Young Indians (YI) is a youth organisation founded in 2002. It is part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, non-profit organisation.
