Career Expo to empower students in Dmp

Students participate at the Career Expo jointly organized by Peace Channel and SCERT in Dimapur on May 27.

Dimapur, May 28 (MExN): A one day Career and Educational Expo 2013 was organized jointly by State Council for Educational Research (NCERT), Nagaland and Peace Channel on May 27, at Holy Cross Hr. Sec. School Campus, Dimapur with the theme ‘Right Career for a Peaceful Life’. Around 1000 students from different schools and colleges participated in the programme, according to Peace Channel Desk.

Applauding the effort taken by the organizers, the Chief Guest of the expo, Hushili Sema, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, thanked the organizers for bringing the courses of studies and career choices at the doorstep of the students. She also added that youth and students of the present generation were very privileged as they have everything at their finger tips. However, it is about making an informed choice, she added. She urged the students to make the best use of the opportunities available. She also shared her experiences on how she became a successful NPSC candidate and the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, stating "it the hard work and belief in God which brings expected result."  

Thejakhrielie Jack Sekhose, Joint Director, SCERT spoke on the need of making right career choice. He urged the students to avoid the mistake of giving in to the pressure from family members and friends while deciding a career. He lamented that many of the Naga youths are blackmailed by their parents to get into career which they prefer or could not achieve during their time. “The career expo is to empower and help the students to make the right decision,” he added. He also spoke on technological advancement which makes life easier and comfortable. “These things should help us to reach our goals and aims better. It should never be a hindrance to our aims and future,” he cautioned the participants.

Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima and Chairman of Peace Channel appreciated the collaborative mission of the SCERT and Peace Channel in making the 6th career Expo 2013 a possible dream. “This initiative will reach out to every corner of Nagaland and many more poor and underprivileged students of the state will get benefitted from such noble initiative of the SCERT,” he stated. In his address, he spoke on the situation of youth in Nagaland. “It is a lamentable fact that there are 60,000 educated unemployed youth in Nagaland and there is a dropout rate of 7.14 percent,” he rued. He expressed hope that event like this will contribute towards mitigating these problems.

Meanwhile, Rev.Fr.C.PAnto in his welcome address exhorted the youth the objectives and importance of such initiatives in the state, adding "the importance of choosing the right career is the need to lead a peaceful life." The expo was illuminated by career experts who spoke on different topics: Career in Civil Services by Mohammed Ali Shihab IAS, (P) Assistant Commisioner, Dimapur; Career and Course after X/XII and Graduation by Fr. Bosco SDB Vice Provincial Salesians of Don Bosco followed by a Panel discussion. 

Expert panelists enlightened  the students on various topics:  Mastering Interview and Group Discussion by Wobenthung J Patton, Trainer for Life Skills Development; Career in Armed forces by Maj. Mughavi Y. Sema Naga TA 164 INF BN; Career in Law by Danish Kumar; Career in IT Education by Sanjay Thappa, NIIT; Career in Medicine by Dr. Sedevi Angami, Deputy Director, CIHSR, Career in Hospitality; Bro Sunny SDB, Assistant Director AIDA; Career in Management by Lezo Putsure, Strategist at YouthNet; and Career in Engineering by Er. Petehetuo Miasahou, General Manager NTRTC. Peace Channel and SCERT thanked all the schools and colleges for coming forward to the event and the resource persons for sharing their knowledge for the benefit of the youth. Rev.Fr.Chacko K. parish priest, Holy Cross church graced the occasion and Neli Adahe PRO and the researcher of P.C, proposed vote of thanks.
