Our life is all about goals. Only some people in the world are without any goals or aim in life and they wander as the clouds - directionless. But achieving one’s goals and objectives in life requires certain skills like ‘Task management, Time management’ etc. And since management is all about planning and controlling the activity, it helps us to execute the tasks in a proper and systematic way. Management is not only about studying the theories but it also deals with imparting them practically (e.g. the Manager of the organisation is the one who manages and runs the organisation in an effective and profitable way). Management is the process of executing activity in a structured and systematic way as well as “Getting Things Done” through others. In other words, Management is the process of subordinating, delegating, staffing and controlling to attain the objectives and goals.  

After school, many candidates choose the path of traditional courses and other vocational training courses, but here we wish to encourage exploration into the Management course too which presents a synthesis of theoretical learning and hand-on training in fields like Human Resources Management, Marketing Management, Financial management etc. It also provides vast career options to the students as an emerging discipline in Nagaland. Any candidate from any stream can take Management course.  

Similarly, in the Post Graduate level, students has the options to take up specialization in various subjects such as HRM, Marketing Management, Finance Management, Retail Management, Rural Management, Entrepreneurship Management, Event Management, Disaster Management, Material Management, Hospitality Management and so on. Interested students can select according to the choice of job they want to pursue in future. According to the demands of the market and prevalent job trends, the following are some of the career prospects in different management subjects:  

Career Prospects in Human Resource Management: The main task of HR managers is the efficient/effective development of available skills and talent of the employees within the organization. The HR managers are highly in demand in both public and private sector organizations. People taking HRM can seek employment in public and private sector industries, banking and financial institutions, corporate houses, and multinational companies in-house and abroad also. Personnel Managers can aspire to be employed in the service sectors, particularly IT companies.    

Career Prospects in Financial Management: Finance graduates can be employed in public and private sector as a finance controller, treasurer and finance officer, credit manager, cash manager, risk and insurance manager. There is also a wide variety of job opportunities for these people in banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, mutual fund and investment companies. Financial institutions such as commercial banks, saving and loan association, credit unions, mortgage and finance companies also employ financial managers. To reduce risk and maximize profit, the business organization relies on the financial managers. The financial managers play a vital role in accommodation of finance issues and raising funds from the public through Shares.    

Career Prospects in Marketing Management: The marketing graduates play a vital role in the economic activity through letting others know about the companies’ outputs. The marketing managers determine the demand for the product and services offered by the firm and its competitors and identifying the potential customers of the firm for the product. Marketing involves planning of strategy to deliver the goods and services efficiently and inexpensively to the potential customer. In manufacturing units or service industries, almost half of the jobs are covered by marketing managers. In India Marketing job is considered to be the most prosperous job. The marketing managers are among the highest paid salary employees.    

Career Prospects in Event Management: One can work as an event manager in companies like Wizcraft, television channels like Zee TV, coordinate fashion shows for companies like Lakme, Ponds etc. One can also work as a public relation executive in media and advertisement houses. Event managers are also required in companies alike CNBC TV, DNA network, D Mark, Film and serial production houses, hotel industry, tourism, the corporate sector, BPOs, newspaper houses etc. One can also take up private ventures. Event management is a growing sector in Nagaland.    

Career Prospects in Retail management: India is one of the top emerging retail markets all over the globe. There are approximately 4.3 million retail outlets in India in different states, which needs about 3.25 million retail personnel at present. With such a huge potential retail management offers limitless job opportunities in supply chains, exporting houses and departmental stores. Manufacturing industries also hire retail personnel to reach the customers directly. Banking finance and insurance companies also need professional retail managers to bring their products directly to the consumers. IT and IT enabled companies in the field of telecommunication also require large numbers of retail managers because of the recent boom in the telecommunication industries. There is also scope in health care and education industries.    

Career Prospects in Material Management: Material management has limitless career options in public as well as private sectors. They can be employed in purchasing, storing and supplying departments of defence, railways, public transport etc. They can also be employed in industrial establishments, corporate houses, supply chain industries and private transporters (Blue Dart, E Com express, Safe express etc).    

Career Prospects in Rural Management: Rural management students may get appropriate employment opportunities in government development agencies and Non-government organizations (NGOs). International NGOs and Corporate houses running different development agencies prefer trained rural managers.
