Meluri, June 28 (MExN): A three-day Diocesan Vocation Camp was held at St. Xavier’s Parish, Meluri from June 23 to 25. Organized for the students of Class 7 to 12 comprising both boys and girls, 100 selected students from Pungro, Razeba, Chizami, Lozaphuhu and Meluri attended the camp.
Rev. Fr. Victor Renthungo, Vocation Promoter, Diocese of Kohima told the campers that vocation is a personal call from God and advised them to pray, reflect and discern the will of God, stated a press release from Fr. Thomas Toretkiu.
Briefing on ‘Vocation in the Local Church,’ Rev. Fr. Peter Solo stated that proposing vocations in the local church means having the courage, through an attentive and suitable concern for vocations to point out the challenging way of following Christ because it is so rich in meaning, is capable of engaging one’s whole life.
Dwelling on ‘Prayer,’ Rev. Fr. Loyola Antony said, “Pray always and all ways. When we pray we become less selfish and other centred. Prayer can be of three types: prayer of praise, prayer of petition and prayer of intercession. Secret to become a better person is to pray for others.”
Speaking on ‘Mission in the Church,’ Rev. Fr. Fr. Gideon SJ said that the word “mission” means being “sent.” The Church is “sent into the world to continue the works of Jesus Christ.” He listed the works of Jesus Christ such as preaching, teaching, healing, and acts of charity and justice.
Rev. Fr. Matilda UFC, while addressing on ‘Vocation to Holiness’ said that there is the divinity of God within a person since human being is made in the image and likeness of God. Vocation is a way of life and not merely a profession, he stated.
Rev. Fr. Benjamin Chang, in his address on ‘A consecrated life brings joy to the family’ quoted Pope Francis, “Wherever there are consecrated people, seminarians, men and women religious, young people, there is joy, there is always joy.” He said that worldly things and its attractions are short lived and will perish sooner or later but doing God’s will bring true happiness and joy to all.
On June 24, Rev. Fr. Patrick Neikhalo, Parish Priest, Sacred Heart Church, Chizami, was the main celebrant of the Holy Mass. Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Jose Lukose, Parish Priest, St. Xavier, Meluri in his homily said only people with total commitment and willingness to sacrifice their lives can win the world for Him.
The camp ended with Marian procession and a get together, where varieties of items were presented by the groups.
