CBSE moots common exam format from Class 6 to 9

‘Uniform system of assessment’ replaces Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)   Morung Express News Dimapur | March 22   The Central Board of School Education (CBSE) has formally discarded the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme and introduced a new system to be followed by its affiliated schools from 2017-18 academic sessions. The revised assessment format was announced in a CBSE's circular titled, “Uniform System of Assessment, Examination Pattern and Issue of Report Card for Classes VI - IX from next Academic Year 2017-18 onwards” to its 18,688 affiliated schools on March 21.   This new scheme will bring the uniformity in the system of assessment and examination for classes 9 and 10 in all the CBSE affiliated schools," CBSE informed  in the circular issued by its Chairman RK Chaturvedi.   Following the decision to restore board examinations for class 10 from next academic session, the Board said it is “imperative to have a new scheme of evaluation for classes 6 to 9 because disparities in the system were creating problems for students whenever they migrated to another school."   "To increase the confidence in the students to start preparing for Class 10 Board examination when they join the upper primary stage in Class 6, the CBSE has decided to implement the uniform system of assessment, examination pattern and issue of report cards for Classes 6 to 7 also on the similar pattern," it added.   CBSE said that under the previous scheme of CCE in force since 2009, its affiliated schools uses various system of assessment and examination for classes VI to IX and issues different report cards to the students.   Due to this, students in those classes face several problems whenever they migrate to another school, it said.  The current move is to follow a standardized teaching and evaluation across schools to avoid such disparities.   The Board has also issued common templates for Report cards for to be issued by all CBSE schools under the new system.   The new guidelines also stipulated a two-semester system which will include half yearly and annual examinations. In both terms, there will be 20 marks for periodic assessment which includes 10 marks test and 10 marks for others. In other words, 90 per cent of the marks will be based written test including 80 marks for half yearly or yearly exam.   The CBSE also informed that all the schools under the board needs to follow NCERT syllabus in the upper primary classes.
