Dimapur, September 4 (MExN): The Government of India (GoI) and NSCN-K (Niki), led by President Gen Niki Sumi and Kilonser Starson Lamkhang, have extended the Ceasefire Agreement for a period of one year, from September 8, 2024, to September 7, 2025. The ceasefire extension agreement was signed in New Delhi on September 4.

In a press release, the NSCN-K (Niki) informed that the Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) NSCN team, led by Supervisor Abel Zingrü Thuer and Secretary Ameka Achumi, signed the agreement. Piyush Goyal, Additional Secretary of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, represented the GoI.

According to the signed agreement, the GoI and NSCN-K (Niki) “have mutually decided to extend the Ceasefire Agreement with effect from 08.09.2024 for a period of one year, i.e., until 7th September 2025, to bring about lasting peace in the State of Nagaland with the involvement of the Naga people.”

The ceasefire will be subject to adherence to the Ceasefire Ground Rules mutually agreed upon and signed by both sides, and the rules will be subject to “mutual review and amendment with the involvement of both parties,” it added.
