Parents encouraged not to feel ashamed of their differently-abled children
Jalukie, December 10 (MExN): 131 differently-abled persons from 31 villages of Jalukie area assembled for a pre-Christmas celebration titled ‘Celebrating life with differently-abled persons’ on December 9 at the Town Baptist Church compound, Jalukie. With their guardians, cultural dance troupes, church choir, Jalukie Town Women Welfare Organization, public leaders and the well wishers, the attendance swelled to over 300.
The staff of People in Need Foundation (PNF), which is a partner of Jan Vikas Samiti Banaras (JVS) for the Jalukie area CBR project, spent four days reaching out to the villages and inviting them for the event, informed a press release from Joe Ngamkhuchung, PNF Chairman.
“It was a real celebration as ‘special children’ came forward to participate in the programme. A visually impaired boy sang his heart out in a Gospel song, one special girl read an appreciative address, another offered the vote of thanks. The token presents to the guests were presented by the special children,” it stated.
At the event, Smita Sarangi IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Peren district encouraged parents not to feel ashamed of their differently-abled children or hide them. “They need to grow in public and play their role in society,” she emphasized. Appreciating the organizers for the celebration, she assured that her office will always be open for anyone to approach. The DC also strongly supported NGO’s plan for a District Disability Centre at Jalukie and fervently appealed for public support.
Air Marshall Sumit Mukerji PVSM, SC, VSM (retired), who was the chief guest, and his colleagues were all praise for the celebration calling it “most appropriate,” according to the release. They were awed that in such interior place so many differently-abled people could come together.
The differently-abled persons were presented with a blanket each as Christmas gift. For the celebration, the Town Baptist Church Jalukie offered its compound for the venue, sound system, furniture and all possible facility available with them, the release added.
