The annual ‘Music Festival’ of Dimapur Ao Baptist Church (DABA) Youth Ministry was held here today with youth members from its 8 constituent fellowships competing for Hymnal song contest.

Each fellowship comprising at least 50 members presented their song taking the congregation onto a journey of enthralling music as well as solemn worship.

The Hymns were based on 10th revised edition of Hymnal Book of the Ao Baptist Church Council (ABAM). Stressing on the power of music, the DABA Music Director Talimeren Longkumer said historically, songs and instruments of different kinds have attracted and spoken with people.

They have been used to convey different messages through various medium and also act as a catalyst for social movements, he added.

However, Talimeren cautioned against misusing and making the song or the singer bigger and centre of worship than God.

If so there is danger of worshipping the worship, not God, he maintained, urging the youth to “use it as a channel to communicate with the Lord, and understand the value of worship.”

He also lamented the declining influences of Hymnal, especially among the younger generation, and called for reviving the same saying that it is Biblical, testimonial and doctrinal.

he Music Director also highlighted the need to incorporate local compositions in both Hymns and Praise & Worship songs and told the youth to collaborate for such effort.

After a strong competition, the Duncan Youth Fellowship’s rendition of the Hymn “We Have an Anchor” was declared the winner, while Yinsen and Town Fellowship bagged the 1st runners-up and 2nd runners-up respectively.

Besides the competition, the music festival also saw various performances from different artists and groups including special presentation from Moajungla and Patkai Team.
