Census 2011 underway at Hunphun

HUNPHUN, February 9: The population enumeration of the Census 2011 is in full swing at the Huphun (formerly Ukhrul) Deputy Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar's (IAS) Official quarter.
According to the Press Communiqué issued by the Hunphun Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Rajen Visahal (IAS) stated that the second phase of Census 2011 started with enthusiasm and optimism today with the Head of the District Administration, Deputy Commissioner, N.Ashok Kumar (IAS), being the first person to be enumerated in the Ukhrul District.  The DC in the note informed that around 500 government employees would be undertaking the population enumeration in all the villages of Ukhrul district commencing from February 9 to 28.
The Communiqué further asserted the "hall mark" of the ongoing census 2011 exercise is the preparation of the National Population Register (NPR) under which each and every resident in the country would be issued an identity card containing a unique identity number, photograph (Passport), finger prints and iris imaging. The Deputy Commissioner who is also the Principal Census Officer of the Ukhrul District exhorted one and all to Co-Operate in the Census 2011 exercise, summarizing it nicely- "Counting on everyone, so that each and everyone gets counted" without short-listing any single member
Moreover, in a bid to promote Census 2011, a friendly football match was played yesterday between Wung Soccer and Tangkhul Town Club soccer in Hunphun Tangkhul Naga Long Ground (TNL) at 1:30 pm. The football match was sponsored by the Directorate, Manipur Census Department and organized by the Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA).
The match was graced by Rajen Vishal (IAS) as the chief guest and SA. Shimray from the Manipur Census Department. The chief guest in his public address expressed gratitude to the Manipur Census Department led by SA. Shimray for organizing the event. He also mentioned that the first and second phase of the Ukhrul District is under way peacefully and appealed to all concerned leaders, Social Organizations and public to co-operate in the process meant for the benefit of the people.
The first phase census was carried out without NPR but now it is included so that concrete census data of the existing population are accurate, the operation started from February 9 and will continue till February 28, he added.
Before the match started, the vice president of UDSA Surrender Luikhan Ex- CEO (UADC) in his the welcome address expressed happiness over the unique and mutual programme and highlighted the importance of the census which is carried out every 10 years to know the growth rate of the population in connection to the rural development by the State and Central Government for the welfare of the people.
