Kohima, April 6 (DIPR): As part of the National Electoral Roll Purification (NERP) programme 2016 and Systematic Voters’ Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP), the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, Sanjay Kumar convened a meeting with various government associations on April 6 at Hotel Japfü.
Highlighting the importance of keeping the electoral rolls clean, he urged all the government associations to play a pivotal role in their own respective associations. He said that the employees’ associations were the elite sections to sensitize their own respective members on keeping and maintaining the electoral rolls clean thereby avoiding duplication and election malpractices. Challenging the Senior Officers and representatives of various association, he asked them to ascertain the malpractices in a more vigorous and aggressive manner so that the government employees themselves were not registered multiple times.
Participating in the discussion, NCS President, Kevin Zehol suggested that Aadhaar should be linked with electoral rolls in order to keep the electoral rolls clean and avoid duplication of election malpractices. He also suggested to impart quality training to BLOs & TOTs.
ANSTA General Secretary, Visato Koso said that sensitization programme should begin at the grassroots level in the villages with the help of the youth. Representatives from various associations talked about the importance of Biometric system saying that it would certainly eliminate the menace of proxy and multiple entries and also extended to give support and cooperation to the ongoing program being organized by Election Department.
