Certificate course on waste management concludes

Dimapur, January 31 (MExN): The valedictory programme for the two-month course on waste management (solid waste, bio-medical waste, plastic waste, e-waste and construction & demolition waste) conducted by the ENVIS Hub, Nagaland was held at the Conference Hall of the host organisation, Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) on January 31.
The certificate course on waste management was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India under the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) which is an initiative for skill development in the environment and forest sector to enable India’s youth to get gainful employment and/or self-employment.
Altogether 13 candidates attended the training which included theory and practical sessions taken up by officers of NPCB as well as guest lectures by Nyanthung Humtsoe (LiFE NGO), Puloketo Achumi (Geological Survey of India) and officers from Kohima Smart City Development Ltd, Avelu Ruho, Joint CEO, Atoba Longkumer, IT Analyst and Nipukhrie Tepa, Data Officer.
Rusovil John, IFS (Rsd), Chairman, NPCB presented the trainees with certificates and encouraged them to make efforts in minimizing waste as responsible citizens while highlighting the present condition of waste generation, handling and management in the country.
The training also included visits to leading hospitals in Dimapur such as CIHSR and Zion Hospital & Research Centre, Material Recovery Facility at Chümoukedima, Dimapur, E-circle, an e-waste collection centre at Diphupar Dimapur, FYSI group of Waste Management, 4th Mile Dimapur, Kohima Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, Solid Waste Management Facility at Lerie, Kohima, Septage Treatment Unit at Meriema, Kohima and CAAQMS NPCB Kohima so as to provide a better understanding of various environmental issues in the state as well as the processes involved in handling, treatment and disposal of different types of waste.
A publication consisting of case studies on waste generation, management and handling in different localities of Nagaland carried out by the trainees was also released on the occasion which was attended by all 13 trainees, officers and staff of NPCB and Florence Sangtam, Asstt Director, State Environment Forestry Training Institute.
