
DIMAPUR, July 27 (MExN): The Christian Forum Dimapur visited Manipur on a peace and relief mission. A press release from the CFD informed that in collaboration with the Assemblies of God and the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO), the forum offered support to reach out to the three Meithei relief camps and one Kuki relief camp at Kangpokpi covering over 350 families.
The CFD peace mission consisted of Rev Moses Murry, Chairman; Rev S Vitoshe Swu, Vice President; Fr Dr CP Anto, Secretary; Rev Vangpong Phom, member; Rev Kevihulie Pienyu, member; and Most Rev Thomas Menamparampil, Arch Bishop Emeritus from Guwahati.
The CFD worked in partnership with the Catholic Church through Peace Channel, Clarician congregation to buy the food provisions and camp kit; and with Queen Mary Higher Secondary School Mokokchung to buy a 12 channel ECG machine for the Kangpokpi Christian mission Hospital. The team also interacted and expressed solidarity with AMCO members along with Senapati Baptist Church Council and the Kuki tribe leaders.
The CFD also collaborated with the Assemblies of God of East India (AGEI) to reach out to the Meithei community in three relief camps.
In both phases, the team distributed medicine, food provisions like rice, oil, biscuits, sugar, dal, camp kits including mosquito nets, bed sheets, pillows and pillow cases, torches, bathing towels and soaps. The team provided services to five relief camps.
The CFD also emphasized the significance of interaction with inter-religious groups and intellectuals of the Meithei communities. “This aspect of the mission aimed to foster dialogue, understanding, and communal harmony, promoting the idea of peaceful coexistence among diverse religious and cultural groups,” the press release stated.
“The joint efforts of the CFD and AMCO demonstrated that religion can serve as a unifying force, transcending differences and promoting a shared commitment to humanitarian causes. By combining their resources and expertise, these organizations exemplified the potential of collective action in bringing relief to communities in distress,” it added.
The team also had a short interaction with the Director of Social Welfare Department Manipur, Women Commission officials Manipur and the Manipur press. The contributors for the mission were Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church, Bethesda AG Church, Nagaland Christian Revival, Rengma Baptist Church, Dimapur Baptist Women Union and individuals.
