Dignitaries at Chakaan Gaan- Ngai celebration in Kohima

Kohima, January 20 (MExN): The Rongmei community of Nagabazar Kohima celebrated Chakaan Gaan- Ngai on January 15 at Kathuilong Rongmei Community Hall, Nagabazar, Kohima.
Chakaan Gaan-Ngai is the biggest festival of the Rongmei community which is observed as a New Year Festival asking God’s blessing for good harvest for the year ahead and also remembering and bidding farewell to the departed soul who have died the previous year, stated in a press release by Thuangam Kamei, secretary Gaan-Ngai Organising Committee.
The programme was chaired by Dijonlung Gangmei. Babu Golmei, Chairman Rongmei Development Society, Nagabazar shared greetings. K Neibou Sekhose, chairman T Khel Council graced the occasion as the guest of honour and spoke on the topic “Unity is strength.” He stressed on the importance of unity in building up a society and further encouraged the community to further strengthen the relationship between Tsütuonuomia and T. Khel Kabui (Rongmei) of Nagabazar which has been maintained by the forefather.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Thanchapu Rongmei, Festival Convenor. The festival was attended by T. Khel’s G.B’s, Student Union, Youth Organisation, Women Councils, T. Khel Gorkha Union, Gorkha Students’ Union, G.B’s, Youth and Representative of Nagabazar Panchayat and various organisation from Rongmei community of Kohima.
The festival was marked by cultural dances and wind up with pajeimei/unity dance by all the attendees followed by Chakaan Gaan-Ngai feast.
