IN A novel way to make liquor prohibition successful, the mothers are ready to rise up in the early hour and offer prayers at 5:00 am every morning. That is what the Chakhesang mothers resolved to perform as a part of it continuous endeavor in controlling the use of liquor and drugs in the society.
“For the love of our people, liquor and drug prohibition work will continue through prayer. Each and every Chakhesang mothers shall make it a habit to pray at 5:00 am every morning from the year 2006,” reads one of the resolutions of the General Body Meeting of the Chakhesang Mothers Association (CMA) held at Phek Town last week.
It may be recalled that cinema or video show has been banned at Phek Town since the declaration of the state as a “Dry State” in 1989. On being asked whether the CMA has any step to relax the restriction on video show at Phek, the CMA official said that it does not have such proposal at the moment.
An observer opined the need to open cinema/video show as there was no worth naming recreational activity for the youth at the Phek district headquarters.
In another resolution, the CMA said, “We will earnestly continue to strive and uphold “Shed No More Blood” for peace and unity in our land.” It also resolved to be honest and truthful to themselves and teach the same to their children. “In doing so, we will not allow our children’s to be manipulated by others.” We resolve not to stain ourselves or children in proxy voting, the resolution added.
