Dimapur, September 28 (MExN): The Chakhroma GBs Union has strongly condemned the September 21 assault on a Naga family in Chumukedima.
Terming the assault “despicable”, the GB union stated that the incident is a reminder of the “threat posed by the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants.”
The GBs extended appreciation to the Chumukedima Town Youth Organisation for taking up the matter but maintained that the matter cannot be left to one organisation alone.
“It is painful to see that Nagaland has turned into safe haven for the illegal immigrants to settle and subsequently gain citizenship through various seedy deals,” the union stated.
In this connection, the union called on all Nagas – including the various unions and associations – to rise in unison to address the issue with all seriousness.
The union also called on village authorities to stop issuing Residential Certificates or any certificates to any non locals unless they produce some documents to prove their place of origin and citizenship of India.
It also called on land owners and village councils to check the antecedents before leasing or renting out land and houses or allowing them to settle in the village/colony.
