Changki Ayim Asem Senso Mongdang on Changki situation

The Changki village greatly appreciates the Chairman, Ceasefire Monitoring Group, for visiting the village on 29.03.2012 to learn about the Changki situation. His intention was warmly reciprocated by the village.

During his stoppage at Changki, he met the village elders/clan leaders and enquired about various matters regarding the Changki situation. He expressed his desire to meet the renegade EmremChangki members who are residing in the village and accordingly he had a separate meeting with them. He also met the members of the original EmremChangki living in the village. The Changki villagers conveyed to him that ‘Changki is a peace-loving village and it does not believe in confrontation with anyone.’ The villagers hoped that the ground realities seen by him during his visit to Changki will enable him to form the right opinion.

Changki village requests everyone to understand that the present clan problem in Changki is something to be resolved through Changki customary practices. Any outside interference will only complicate the matter more. We therefore appeal to each and everyone to respect the traditional rights of Changki village and refrain from forming opinion based on rumors and propaganda. The actual ground reality is altogether different from what many think. The renegade Changki group in Changki are living as any other citizens and there is no complain from them .This can be verified by visiting the village. Incidentally, it may be mentioned that in the year 2009, the renegade EmremChangki group living outside the village complained to the then Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung that their clansmen in the village were not allowed to do cultivation. The Deputy Commissioner sent a group of 20 Dobasishs (DB) to Changki village to find out the fact. On inquiry, the village council told them that the renegade EmremChangki group have never approached them for cultivation and it is not understood why they complained to Deputy Commissioner. The DBs went back satisfied and informed them that they should approach the village council if they want to cultivate as per tradition. Till now they have not approached the village council for cultivation.

We deemed it necessary to mention here that in the year 2006,the renegade Emrem Changki group went to the court of ADC(Judicial) Mokokchung where they changed their clan name from ‘Emrem Changki’ to ‘Changkiri Imren’.This is the root cause of the present dispute between the Changki village and the renegade EmremChangki group. This core issue had never been addressed by any group till date. No Naga village will ever allow any group into their midst with an alien clan name. This is the main hitch why the Changki problem could not be sorted out till date
