Chaplain’s son ‘forgives’ the ‘killers’ of his parents

Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): Somi, the eldest son of slain NSCN-IM chaplain PK Stone and wife Maireila, forgives the killers of his parents. Somi, a teenager, lost both his parents when unidentified gunmen abducted and later killed them along with three other NSCN-IM functionaries recently in Jotsoma area. Young Somi is now ‘father and mother’ to his two younger siblings, a brother and a sister.

An MIP note stated that Somi forgives the killers of his parents. Rather, he prays that the misery he and his young siblings have fallen to should not befall the children of the ones who snuffed out the lives of his parents. “Let unkindness and compassionless of this world befall not on the children of those who killed our parents. We forgive them and God knows our hearts” the NSCN-IM MIP quoted Somi’s message.

The deeper pain Somi feels in his heart, however, is the fate of his mother, said the outfit. “My mother she barely speaks broken Nagamese; uninformed and unexposed, she does not know any other dialect except our own mother dialect…she is ignorant, yet so dear to us” Somi is quoted. The orphan is also hurt that his mother was targeted.  He is quoted saying that “my mother’s identity has been misread and therefore targeted wrongly.”

“For years, my mother like a widow struggles and maintains our poor home in remote village. My father hardly visits us. Regardless of pain, sorrow and limited knowledge and education, with all her skills she inspires and feeds us in our needs” the orphan says.

While expressing gratitude to all who have helped the family in various ways, Somi’s greatest wish is that the same tragedy should not happen to other children; that their parents should not be taken away in such a manner as his parents’ were. Somi pleads that no home be ever crushed again in such a way from mow on, the MIP stated.
