Check import of pigs: NSCN (IM) UT office urges district admin, VCs

Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): The Union Territory Office of NSCN (IM) on Wednesday claimed that the pigs, particularly from Assam, are being imported unabatedly despite the State government’s ban on import of pigs from neighboring states.

The ban was imposed following the reported outbreak of the African swine fever.

Dead pigs are being imported into Dimapur which are then reportedly taken to the riverside for cleaning before being taken for sale, the UT office said.

It also alleged that there is random butchering of meat on the roadsides in an unhygienic manner creating health concerns for the general public.

In this regard, the NSCN (IM) UT urged the Dimapur district administration and Village Councils in the border areas to restrict the import of pigs into the state.
