Dimapur, December 29 (MExN): The All India Christian Council has demanded for a CBI inquiry for proper and impartial investigation for justice in relation to the recent violence targeted against the Christians in Orissa. This demand was made in a memorandum submitted to the Vice President of India. The memo also called for deployment of Central Para Military forces in adequate strength at all the affected and sensitive places to prevent any further recurrences as the local police has not been able to control the situation.
The AICC also called for an impartial and proper assessment of the property damaged, caused to various Churches, Christian institutions and other establishments and demanded adequate compensation be provided as early as possible to restore confidence of the people in the administration. The memo also sought for proper compensation to be given to the deceased family and injured persons.
The Christian delegation also demanded that the culprits responsible for creating communal disharmony and causing damage to people and properties should be severely dealt with and the Govt. officials be given exemplary punishments for their gross negligence, inaction, apathy amounting to connivance with the perpetrators
The AICC also called for a Fact Finding Committee consisting of various Church leaders and representatives and proposed to visit various affected sites and personnel of the Kandhamal District and other affected places of the state to take stock of the situation and to console the victims and families. For this, the AICC requested for adequate police protection to the team during their visit.
