Church empowers women through training

Medziphema, September 16 (MExN): To empower the women of Medziphema Ao Baptist Church, one day training on ‘Cultivation of Oyster Mushroom and value addition of horticulture crops’ was organised by the Crusaders Club under the Youth Ministry of Medziphema Ao Baptist Church on September 16. The training was sponsored by Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema.  

The resource persons of the training were Sarila and Bendangla from Orchid SHG, a successful SHG in the enterprise of bamboo shoot pickle and other value added products from Dimapur, Dr. Sentirenla, Asst. Professor, B. Voc and Tzubentula Jamir, SASRD and Imtinaro from CIH, Medziphema.  

The training comprised of demonstration on preparation of king chilli pickle with bamboo shoot, demonstration on cultivation of oyster mushroom, demonstration on preparation of pineapple jam and squash.  

The main objective of the training was to train the women on self sustenance and earn extra income for the overall welfare of the family as well as attain nutritional security of the family through the consumption of mushroom, a highly nutritive food item, according to a press release.  

Further, Medziphema being a hub for pineapple cultivation and an abundant natural availability of bamboo shoot, the participants were taught on how to preserve these items when it is abundantly available and use it during off season without wasting any produce.   Altogether, 45 women attended the training.
