
Deliberates on need, relevance and engagement of the church to bring transformation in society
Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): Fully conscious of the growing socio-political challenges of the Naga society, a group of concern church leaders came together to deliberate upon the need, relevance and engagement of the church to bring about the needed transformation in the society. The meeting was held on June 12 in the official residence of Rev. Dr. VK Nuh at Dimapur where prominent church leaders from Phek, Pfutsero, Kohima and Dimapur took part.
In the meeting, the church leaders shared on the growing concerns about the indispensable role of the church in social and political life of the Naga society and affirmed the prophetic ministry of the church while asserting the theological stance of the church on socio-political issues confronting the society today.
Deliberating on some pertinent issues at length the discussions centered on the social evils of the day. The issues included electoral male practices, criminalization of politics, the alliance between economic powers and political powers, inefficiency in governance and corruptions at all levels, famine of truth, deficient quality education, unabated taxations and the resultant sufferings of the people, which the church needs to address urgently.
It also stressed on the issues of electoral reforms, quality education, sovereignty, nationalism and examined the Biblical and theological basis of the church prophetic witness addressing the issues of the day. While expressing the need and importance of imparting sound theological and biblical teachings to the people the meeting called upon all concerned believers and churches to strive and set ‘role model’ by a holy and presentable living on the foundation of the Biblical truth.
The meeting resolved to organize follow up programmes of this consultation through appropriate forums in the greater interest of the church and society.
