Churches reach out to drug users

Shocked on seeing 22 drug addicts being kept in chains at Tuli town, Grace Home Rehabilitation Centre, a church-run initiative, Tuli Town, approached the 5 ward committee members of the town to release the chained drug users and also conducted a detoxification camp for their benefit from September 23 to October 2 last. However, 4 of them could not attend the camp due to ill health.

According to Grace Home, out of the 18 addicts who attended the camp, 7 were married men with children. Resource persons at the camp were Missionary Kilang Jamir and Talimeren, Regional Coordinator of  Nehemiah India.

In the camp, apart from urging drug users to give up their addiction, the resource persons also stressed on spiritual rejuvenation. They also sensitized the town’s leaders, Church workers and elders on how to deal with addicts in the society.

The Home further informed that out of the 18 addicts, 11 had agreed to continue their rehabilitation programme and is still staying at the Home.

It may be mentioned that 5 Churches in the town, namely Tuli Town Baptist Church, Tzüdikong Baptist Church, Tuli Lenden Baptist Arogo, Ait Lenden Baptist Church, and Luyong Baptist Church, is looking after Grace Home Rehabilitation Centre.

Meanwhile, Grace Home has thanked the Tuli Lenden Ward Committee for donating Rs 14100 towards the camp besides rendering both physical and spiritual support towards the initiative to rehabilitate drug users.
