Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR), Dimapur, in partnership with Motivation India, a NGO working for uplift and support of orthopedically, visually and mentally impaired people, launched a wheelchair training unit outside the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department, CIHSR complex on Wednesday.
Motivation India representative Mukul Kishore inaugurated the training centre in presence of CIHSR faculty and staff including the institute’s deputy director (admn), Dr. Viu Meru, medical superintendent, Dr. Jacob Chacko and lead consultant (Orthopedic), Dr. Keith Kalyan Ingty.
The inauguration of the wheelchair training unit will not only benefit patients from Nagaland but also from neighbouring states like Manipur and Assam. People in need of wheelchairs can now visit the centre and consult with Dr. Ingty, who in turn will give recommendation on six different types of wheelchairs, based on the specific need and requirement of the individual.
After this, they will undergo training on proper and optimum use of the wheelchairs. The wheelchairs, the latest in modern technology made in the UK, are assembled in India. The wheelchairs will be given to recommended persons or patients at subsidized rate.
