DIMAPUR: A group of citizens have appealed to the Naga Council, SKK, DNSU, other concerned social organizations as well as the general public to rein in Madan Lal Sharma, proprietor of Maruti Motors, Khermahal the main accused in the July 14 incident where two youths Imato Awomi and Kezah Kire were assaulted reportedly by some underground cadres on the instigation of Sharma.

In a joint letter signed by a group of Dimapur citizens, the concerned stated that Sharma, in spite of having his trade license cancelled by the Dimapur Municipal Council, was planning to start business again under a fictitious name.

It also alleged that the businessman was moving about freely on the pretext of ill-health and having obtained bail with the help of a certain official belonging to an underground faction.

The citizens lamented that although the incident drew public outcry and widespread condemnation from various NGOs such as the Naga Council, SKK, DNSU and KVYO who resolved and warned against severe action against anyone giving shelter and bailing out Sharma, he was still continuing his activities freely.

The letter also stated that the National workers should know that Sharma was without any morals and that the fight for sovereignty has been made into a mockery since the national workers had stooped low to protect deceitful non-local businessmen.

“What had happened on July 14 should not be left off as just a stray incident by the Nagas but it should be a grim reminder of how the innocents are maimed ,tortured, beaten and shot at by undergrounds on their own brothers at the instigations of such as the likes of Madan Sharma” the letter stated. Calling upon the Naga Council, SKK, DNSU, concerned social organizations as well as the general public to take immediate action against Madan Lal Sharma, it appealed to the Nagas to wake up lest non-locals trample and crush the innocent simply for the reason that some vested interests wanted to make easy money by living under the patronage of deceitful non-locals.
