The Civil Engineers’ Association of Nagaland (CEAN) conducted its 34th general conference cum felicitation programme at State Academy Hall, Kohima on October 8.
Addressing the conference as the guest speaker, Er Hozheto Shikhu, Chief Engineer, PWD (Housing), Nagaland, called upon the civil engineers of the state to change their perspective to face various challenges ahead.
Apart from roads and building sector, he said that there are lots of potentials in hydropower projects, tourism, natural resources and small scale business in the state.
“Let us explore together,” he said and maintained that the Naga youth possesses fluency in English and hospitable in nature, which plays as key asset to succeed various enterprises.
We should not focus only on government sector, he said and encouraged the youth to venture into private sector.
Dr Nzanthung Ngullie, Associate Dean (Consultancy), Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland called upon the members of CEAN to give due attention towards the goal of Viksit Bharat.
Viksit Bharat is Government of India's ambitious vision to transform the nation into a developed entity by the centenary of its Independence in 2047.
Hoping that Nagaland will too see multiple infrastructural projects during this period, he called upon the engineers to ensure successful execution of the projects.
“We should not miss the Viksit Bharat,” he said.
Zubemo Tsanglao, Joint Director, Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Nagaland and Er Sulanthung K. Tsopoe, SDO, Urban Engineering Wing also exhorted the gathering.
‘Civil engineers are backbone of a state infrastructure’
CEAN President Er Choice Pielie said the CEAN since its inception in 1990 has set itself a standard for promoting and addressing the importance of civil engineering and a stern advocate for protecting the rights of the engineers.
“CEAN today has made an impression for honesty and integrity and therefore, we encourage our members to continue to carry forward this legacy wherever we are,” he said.
Let us all carry the identity of being an engineer with values, he said.
Stating that civil engineers are the backbone of a state infrastructure, he challenged one and all and especially the 56 young officers who will be joining the service to be more innovative, efficient and work together and “make our state roads and infrastructure at the highest bar compared to other states of India rather than complaining about our situations.”
Stating that CTAN and CEAN have worked together in uprooting and checking the corruption in the system of the state, he said “And will continue our fight against any evil activity of our state.”
Stating that CEAN has strength of 1025 members at present and still growing with 11 executives and 3 advisors, he said “CEAN will continue to grow towards truth, justice and excellence.”
CEAN new team for 2024-2026
Er Kinito Q Wotsa will lead the new executives of CEAN as president for the tenure 2024-2026. Vice President- Er Rakovi Pohena, General Secretary- Er Kasheli Achumi, Asst General Secretary- Er Changsangla Chang, Finance Secretary- Er Lily Y Phom, Asst Finance Secretary- Er Supong P, Information Secretary- Er Haiwalo Jemu, Statistical Secretary- Er Seyievizo Pielie, Core members) Er Petekhrielie Khana, Er Huka A Yeptho, Er Chumliba Jingru. Advisors- Er Choice Pielie, Er Vungao Murry, Er Dovili Swu and Er Manweng Konyak.
Earlier, the programme was led by Er Alikali Zhimo. CEAN report was given by CEAN Assistant General Secretary Er Lhoumetha Puyie while finance report was given by CEAN Finance Secretary Er Vekrolii Swuro. Er Niende Khutsoh and Thujovelu Phesao presented special number.
Felicitation of the successful candidates was presided by CEAN Information Secretary Er Manweng Konyak.
Vikhoto Zao, Asst Pastor, PENIEL Church Kohima and Er Neichütuonuo Yhome, core member CEAN pronounced invocation and benediction prayer respectively.
Vote of thanks was proposed by CEAN core committee member Er A Lumtsala Sangtam.
