The 85th Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (SBAK) Nito Mount, Triennial Conference was held from December 8-10 at Tsutoho Baptist Church under the theme, ‘Jesus the Living Water.’
Exhorting the congregation on Sunday devotional service, Secretary, Land Resources and Finance Department, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS expressed strong support towards clean election campaign by the church. However, he opined that the church should also check first within its premises to see whether selections/elections of Executive Secretaries in various church associations were clean. “Clean election should not only be about state assembly elections but it should begin first within the church, village councils, VDBs, students’ unions etc. These roots have to be cleaned first,” he said. He maintained that the campaign on clean election itself has become costly and wondered whether the church was taking any step on this issue. “We should all see that if elections are to be conducted, it should be held peacefully and at the same time we should also pray for a peaceful solution to the Naga political issue,” he added.
Kikheto further said that the churches should set an example of unity amongst itself and then propagate the message to political parties, Naga National Political Groups and the society. As Christians, he stated, it is for the believers to make peace and unity as a mission.
When there was relative peace prevailing among the NNPGs and the society, it was an opportune time to reconcile and pray for a better generation, he added.
Kikheto pointed out that Nagaland was blessed with rich biodiversity and fertile soil but rued that hard labour was vanishing from the people. Stating that clean air, good climatic conditions and organic produces in rural areas were something that urban populace yearn for, he said there should not be a mad rush among the rural people towards urban settlement.
The conference was attended by thousands of believers and a galaxy of renowned church leaders.
