Mokokchung | August 10
If Mokokchung town was declared the ‘cleanest town’ in Nagaland by the Swachh Survekshan (Urban) 2018 survey report, here is another chance to prove that villages in Mokokchung district are the cleanest in Nagaland. A countrywide sanitation survey under Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 (SSG 2018) or Clean Survey of Village 2018 will be conducted in all districts from August 1-31, 2018, and the results will be announced in the form of a ranking of all districts and states on the basis of quantitative and qualitative sanitation (Swachhata) parameters. This survey is an initiative of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India and will be conducted by an independent agency. The top performing states and districts are expected to be awarded on October 2, 2018.
This was made known at an awareness campaign on Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 (SSG 2018) for Mokokchung district organized by the PHED Mokokchung held today at Longkumer Kilem. The programme was attended by village council chairmen, teachers and WATSAN representatives from 40 villages of Mokokchung district.
Executive Engineer, PHED Mokokchung, Yanger Pongen while speaking at the campaign said that survey will be conducted by an independent agency and that it is not known which villages will be surveyed. He therefore requested all the villages in Mokokchung to be ready. He also added that the SSG 2018 will also rank the district as a whole and called upon all the villages to cooperate and participate so that Mokokchung district will be ranked top in Nagaland.
SDO (C) Mokokchung, Chaitanya Prasad IAS, who was also present on behalf of the district administration, said that the villages in Mokokchung were already clean and that it was now time for them to move on to the “next stage.” On the recent Swachh Survekshan (Urban) 2018 survey report, where Nagaland was ranked as the third dirtiest state, he opined that the result did not reflect the reality as Nagaland’s villages were surprisingly clean though he admitted that the urban centers were not as clean.
Alemjungla, WSSO & Consultant, PHED Mokokchung while highlighting on the aspects of SSG 2018 said that the survey would be conducted on the basis of three parameters, namely, Direct observation of sanitation in public places for 30 per cent of the points scored, Citizen’s feedback on sanitation parameters for 35 per cent and Service-level progress on sanitation progress in the country as per SBMG-MIS: 35 per cent. The third parameter would be solely responsible for the PHED but the other two parameters would depend on citizens’ participation and awareness.
Meanwhile, the PHED Mokokchung has appealed to the people of Mokokchung to download SSG 18 app from Google Play Store and submit their feedback on key sanitation related parameters which will help in the district’s ranking. For queries, citizens may contact the consultant at 8974803033.
