Mokokchung Municipal Council has today launched the observation of Swachhata Pakhwada or Cleanliness Fortnight as part of Swachh Bharat Mission under the theme Swaachhta Hi Seca or ‘Cleanliness is Service’ at the MMC Conference Hall attended by all the District Ambassadors of SBM Mokokchung, all wards chairmen of Mokokchung town and sanitation committee members of the respective wards as well as MMC staff. The event was also marked with felicitation of MMC sanitary workers in the presence of Nagaland SBM ambassador Supongmeren Jamir.
Chairman of SBM Mokokchung district, M.Bendangnukshi Longkumer administered the ‘cleanliness pledge’ as part of the Cleanliness Fortnight launching ceremony, which will be observed under MMC jurisdiction till the 15th of October 2017. Short speeches on theme were also delivered by Nagaland SBM ambassador Supongmeren Jamir, general secretary of All Wards Union Mokokchung, Lanumeren and SBM Mokokchung district ambassador and president of Watsϋ Mungdang, Maonglila.
Earlier, ADC Mokokchung and MMC Administrator W.Manpai Phom while delivereing the keynote address highlighted the action plan for the cleanliness fortnight observance in Mokokchung town which would include selection of garbage disposal areas to be cleaned up and beautified, cleaning of public toilets, art competition using waste materials on the theme ‘Cleanliness is Service’ and an inter ward cleanliness competition. SBM activities in Mokokchung during the last 3 years will also be reviewed as part of the cleanliness fortnight.
