He joined the band in 1977 as bass player alongside Bon Scott, Angus and Malcolm Young and Phil Rudd. And on Tuesday, Cliff Williams announced his retirement from rock band AC/DC, leaving co-founder Angus as the last original. The 66-year-old informed fans of his decision via a social media video, where he explained it was time he finished touring and spent time at home with his family. 'It is time for me to step down. I am ready to get off the road and do what I do in-between tours,' he said in the touching clip. 'It is just my time. I am happy. Its family time now and just chill out and not do this.' The English musician reassured fans his decision to leave the award-winning band wasn't due to the loss of past members. 'It's time. Not being we lost Mel, Phil or Brian...I mean everything changes when something happens like that. 'When Bon [Scott] died, it changed then. It’s not that, I’m just ready to get off the road,' he said. Cliff finished by praising his fans and fellow band mates. 'I couldn’t have asked for anything more being with the people I am with and being in this situation being in this band and playing this music,' he said. 'Thanks to everyone who has supported us on this tour...The audience, the fans, the supporters have been brilliant. We really appreciate it.' Moments after news broke, fans took to social media to voice their disappointment and surprise. Cliff isn't the first member to leave the band. Over the years, seven musicians have exited the rock group.
