CM calls for eradication of backwardness

Literacy rate lowest in Mon district with 58.47%
 
Mon, April 15 (DIPR): The Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio called upon the youth to adopt the ‘dignity of labour’ for sustainable economic development of the state and reiterated his stand to preserve the seeds of development and enjoy its fruits.
He was addressing at the public meeting held at local ground Aboi, after laying the foundation stone for Polytechnic Institute and inauguration of ADC’s Office Complex and DB’s Court at Aboi, on April 14. Referring to the literacy rate of 2011 census he said Mon district is still the lowest with 58.47% and challenged the youth to give priority to education for overall development and to adopt self empnloyment, rather than Government service, which is very limited. Citing that Knowledge is Power, he advised the youth to improve the literacy rate and added that the people should not remain literally handicap.
Referring to eradication of backwardness and poverty from the district, the CM said that no external force will rescue the people from backwardness but the task of liberty from backwardness lies within the people itself and not with the outsiders. He exhorted the people to discontinue the habit of depending on outsiders, but to adopt work culture for self-sufficiency. Pointing out that the initiative and achievement of the DAN Government in all sectors has given a wake up call for more and more development, he said the demand for separate statehood of ENPO is a sign of realization of importance of development and its need for social economic development of the ENPO regions which have remain undeveloped for many years in the past.

Asserting that many Naga families are dependent on the income of a mother, he informed that this year the Government will focus on special development for the welfare of the women.  Self Help Groups (SHGs) and other women societies will be given special financial assistance to promote and encourage the welfare of the women, he added.
He further assured the people that his Government is committed to ensure peace and development of the people especially for upliftment of the backward region and called upon the gathering to extend full cooperation and support to DAN Government for all-round development.      
In his short speech, Minister for School Education, Nyeiwang Konyak enumerated, various developmental programmes took place in his constituency after the DAN Government came to power under the able leadership of Neiphiu Rio. Lauding the Chief Minister and Advisor DUDA, for their concern for the people of Aboi, he urged upon the people to continue to support the leadership of the Chief Minister and the DAN Government.
Advisor DUDA, E. E. Pangteang said that the construction of the ADC’s Office Complex at Aboi is a major achievement of the DUDA’s department. Stating that it is a nature for any political party to give high volume and false promise, he said the promise of the DAN Government to the people have been fulfilled not by words but by action. Admitting that DUDA schemes were found not implemented properly during his tour in some constituencies in the backward districts, he said the respective elected members and the local contractors are responsible for not implementing the schemes properly.
With the inauguration of new ADC’s Office Complex at Aboi sub-division, 7 (seven) other Government departments, besides Administration, will benefit from this new building. The Office of the DIS (Education), SDAO (Agri), SDO (Soil), EE (Power), Asstt. Comdt. (V.G), SDIO (IPR) and the department of Information Technology & Communications will be accommodated in the same building.
The CM was accompanied by Nyeiwang Konyak, Minister for School Education & SCERT; M.C. Konyak, Minister for Forest, Environment, Ecology & Wildlife, Excise; P. Longon, Minister for Soil & Water Conservation, Land Resources Development; Dr. Chumben Murry, Minister for Agriculture; Yitachu, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Law & Justice; S. Pangnyu Phom, Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development, REPA; E.E. Pangteang, Advisor DUDA; Kipili Sangtam, MLA & Chairman NSMDC and C. L. John, MLA & Chairman MARCOFED.
The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Mon Dinesh Kumar IAS. Earlier Welcome address was pronounced by Manjai Konyak, President Konyak Union, Aboi unit and vote of thanks was proposed by Shahangh, Vice Chairman, Adhoc Committee, Aboi. The highlights of the function were cultural dance by KNSK Aboi, Aboi Town Students’ Union and Chen Union, Aboi and also special number by Pangshong, Honkai & Longman.
