DIMAPUR, MAY 19 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister (CM), Neiphiu Rio, has reportedly directed speeding up the process of shifting of Dimapur district headquarters to the new site at Chumukedima.
This was informed by Commissioner & Secretary to the CM, L Kire, at a meeting with Head of Departments (HoDs) of various departments under Dimapur district, SBI and BSNL representatives in presence of DC Dimapur, N Hushili Sema, here at new DC complex, Chumukedima, on Saturday.
The Commissioner & Secretary said inauguration of the new district headquarter was kept on hold due to the state assembly elections but now Rio wants to speed up the process of shifting. He also informed the various departments that the CM had assured that fund constraints will not come in the way of shifting.
The urgency for shifting also comes in the wake of reports of miscreants ransacking the newly constructed staff and officers’ quarters and offices at the new DC Complex.
Kire also informed that on Friday last, Neiphiu Rio had a review meeting with the CAWD engineers and contractor of the new DC complex on progress of the works. He said shifting of department offices to the new complex would be done phase-wise with departments like Treasury & Accounts, Planning, Rural Development and SBI on priority list.
While other departments have to make do with whatever facility and space provided in the new complex for the moment, Kire urged the Treasury and SBI to try their best in setting up offices in the new complex. Officials of various departments gave their views and suggestions on the shifting process. The Treasury department presented details of the department’s requirement including a strong-room and SBI branch attached to it. SBI representative David Kire said it might take minimum two months for the bank to get permission from RBI to open a new branch attached with the Treasury office.
Executive engineer CAWD, Er. Sungti Amer, briefed on the progress of ongoing works in the new DC Complex. Former chief advisor of Chumukedima Town Council, T Shuya, urged on the need to construct a road from Police complex to the new DC complex via the old British rail track for easier accessibility and assistance of police.
Meanwhile, final touches are being given to the main administrative building which will house the deputy commissioner’s office and establishments and at least 17 other government departments. The main building will also accommodate a SBI branch office and Treasury.
At least 15 staff quarters inside the sprawling DC complex, reportedly bigger in area than the State Civil Secretariat in Kohima, including official residences of DC and Superintendent of Police, Dimapur, have been completed while works are in full swing to complete offices of SP Dimapur and six other government departments.
