CMO Mokokchung gears up for omicron, COVID-19 and routine immunisation

Mokokchung, January 12 (MExN): Mokokchung district today geared up for omicron variant, COVID-19 and other immunisation programme by conducting  training for Medical officers and health care workers of the district. 

The medical officers and District Programme Management Unit staff were trained on omicron preparedness, COVID-19 vaccination, Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI)/Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) and Routine Immunization (RI) Microplan, informed a press release from the Chief Medical Officer, Office Mokokchung.

Giving a presentation on key strategies of COVID-19 (Omicron Wave), Dr Aonungdok Tushi, Deputy CMO Mokokchung reiterated that there is no room for complacency amid the impending third wave.

Noting that there has been an increase in COVID cases in few districts of Nagaland in the last few days, Dr Tushi maintained that by the time omicron variant is detected in Nagaland, it would have “spread like wildfire.”"

The only way to stay safe is to follow COVID appropriate behaviours and to get vaccinated, he added. 

Also addressing the trainees, Dr Tiasunep DPO CD-I encouraged them to focus on vulnerable groups like 60 years and above and people with co-morbid conditions. 

He stressed on the importance of getting COVID test for one’s safety, for referral and for monitoring.

Dr Tiasunep also called upon the trainees to be more vigilant as delta is still prevalent in the district while there is an impending omicron wave.

A presentation on the vaccination 15-18 years and precautionary doses for HCWs, FLWs and those above 60 years with co-morbid conditions was also given by Dr Ayangla Saku DPO, DPO, UIP& RCH.

She informed that district has started the vaccination of 1st dose for 15-18 years and precautionary dose from 10th of January at District Hospital and Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC).

The vaccines at other PHCs and CHCs would be made available within this week, she said. 

Dr Saku also stressed on preparing of micro-plan for vaccination of school children and for school dropouts.

Dwelling on immunisation coverage in the district, she pointed out that dropouts are high and urged the health workers to track them and include them during the upcoming IMI scheduled in the coming three months – February-April, 2022.

The DPO also informed that the next IPPI (0-5 years) will be held on January 23 and encouraged all health workers to give the polio drops without missing even a single child.

The training was attended by Senior Medical Officers, Medical Officers, DPM, DCM, BPMs, ASHA Co-ordinators and IEC personnel, the CMO’s release added.
