CM’s Scholarship for Music recipients leave for Chennai

Kohima, January 9 (MExN): The first batch of recipients of the Chief Minister’s Scholarship for Music were sent off to Tamil Nadu by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to undergo a three-month customized professional course at the KM Music Conservatory (KMMC), Arumbakkam, Chennai. 

According to a press release from Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) Project Director Dr Hovithal Sothu on Sunday, the trio— Vikhietuonuo Rutsa, Binthu Newmai and Vitolu Zhimomi, were selected after an open advertisement inviting empanelled artistes to apply for the scholarship was put out.

The Project Director informed that 7 applicants qualified to sit for the interview, following which the interview board consisting of two members each from KMMC and TaFMA recommended 4 artistes. “But due to unavoidable circumstances one candidate could not avail the scholarship,” he added. The candidates will receive a scholarship of Rs 4 lakh each along with travel and accommodation expenses and a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000. 

The KMMC which was founded by Grammy and Academy Award winning composer and musician Dr AR Rahman offers a wide range of part-time and full-time music courses of Hindustani and Western Classical and music technology, he added. Dr Rahman is also the Principal of the conservatory.

Meanwhile, TaFMA expressed gratitude to the CM for the initiative which it said, would help musicians to grow to their full potential. It also extended best wishes to the candidates.
