Directs banks to take immediate steps within 3 days
Dimapur, April 30 (MExN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) observed a lack of maintenance of COVID-19 SOPs in ATM booths in the State and held the banks responsible “for not being serious on the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In addition to this, most of the ATMs also seem to be out of order, have no doors, no power backup and mostly seem to be operating with cash crunch which is a big concern to the general public, it added.
It also pointed out the low hygiene standards in most ATM booths which are “painted red with pan masala stains, urine stains and filled with dirt.” In this regard, the CNCCI requested the public to practice civic sense. It also urged the public to maintain social distancing and avoid crowding by following the system of ‘one person at a time’ inside the ATM booth while availing ATM services.
The CNCCI has directed banks to maintain the basic requirements such as sanitizers, clean the ATM machines at regular intervals with disinfectants, ensure appropriate distances among the customers and ensure one customer at a time inside the ATM booths, and maintain sufficient cash so that the public does not roam around the towns and city looking for cash loaded ATMs.
It reminded the banks that customers are charged for the service and should be treated accordingly. CNCCI will not hesitate to pursue appropriate legal action if immediate steps are not taken within 3 days, it cautioned.
