Mon, March 12 (MExN): The Konyak Union’s Committee on Drug Abuse, Mitigation and Prevention (CoDAMP) initiated a programme for women drug users in Mon under the banner of “Monghüm”.
“Monghüm”- translates as “Hope” in the Konyak language. The project “Monghüm” will attempt to re-integrate the women mentally, spiritually and economically into the society, informed a press release issued by Dr Chenjei Konyak, Convenor, CoDAMP.
As the first step towards recovery and re-integration, group counseling for women drug users across Mon Town was organized on March 12 with Rev Dr Ellen Konyak Jamir, Associate Professor of Pastoral Counseling & Psychotherapy, Oriental Theological Seminary, Dimapur as the resource person.
The intensive counseling session was attended 12 women. The programme was held at Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB) Conference hall Mon and was co-sponsored by Beti Bachao Beti Padhao District Task Force.
This project has been conceptualized to help women drug users, in line with the Konyak civil societies’ declaration of ‘War on Drugs’.
‘War on Drugs’ has become a community movement which is spearheaded by the CoDAMP appointed by the apex civil organizations of Mon District. And one such spark of hope was planted today as 12 women drug users gathered for group counseling on the theme ‘Women in Recovery’.
