The Assam Rifles organized a mega free medical camp here at DDSC Stadium on Wednesday as part of the celebration of the paratrooper’s 181st Raising Day.
Nagaland Home Minister, Y Patton, who inaugurated the medical camp in his address, lauded the Assam Rifles (AR) for bringing medical facilities at the doorsteps of the local populace of Dimapur and adjoining districts.
“This act by you (AR) will show the commitment of almost two centuries, where brave men of Assam Rifles have not only fought gallantly for our peace and tranquility but also for our well being and health,” the Home Minister said.
Patton said despite the presence of other armed forces in the state, the AR with its motto “Service before self” has made a marked presence in the hearts and lives of the citizens of Nagaland. “Whether it is medical camps, educational tours, training for recruitment rallies or welfare projects, the force has stood steady and first amongst equals to look after the people of Nagaland,” he said.
Stating that it is also the endeavour of Nagaland Government to organize such initiatives which will improve the overall health index of the state, the Home Minister also reiterated the government’s determination to provide an enabling environment through which other agencies and stakeholders can continue to serve the less fortunate members of the society.
Patton also acknowledged CADILA Health Care for taking part in the camp and providing free scanning of Hepatitis B and C.
Hundreds of citizens from Dimapur city and adjoining areas turned up to avail the free medical camp.
Commandant, 32 AR, Col VS Shikarwar, chaired the inaugural programme.
