A community library was inaugurated at Phesama Village, under Kohima District today.
Opened by the Phesama Students' Union, President Mhasikhoto Chuse said the library has a pool of resources like old textbooks and school uniforms and houses books on various subject collected and donated over a period of time.
As a student body, Chuse said the initiative looks at the larger needs and requirement of the villagers where as a Community, shared values can remain alive through such platforms.
For instance, he said old textbooks or usable uniforms if donated can be passed down to someone in need.
Apart from that, the library houses books for competitive exam preparations and ample reading space.
Speaking at the inauguration programme, Principal of St Paul Institute, Phesama, Rev Fr Charles DSouza SJ asserted that a library opened for the community is a noble initiative to give back to the society.
In this space, he said, students who have difficulty to study or give time to studies at home can make great use of the library equipped which is friendly for concentration.
He highlighted the important role of libraries and impact that it can have for individuals as a resource for developing one's knowledge.
Initiated by the Phesama Students' Union, he appreciated the union for rendering the noble service.

Adding that to buy many books can be expensive for an individual, it was a library that a person can avail different books.
The speaker further asked students to treat the library with highest respect and maintain discipline and decorum when utilizing the space.
While delivering the keynote address, Teacher incharge of Government Primary School, Tekhuba, Kekhriengulie Khezhie said library is an indispensable part of the society and spoke about a wide array of advantages that libraries can provide.
He said it is a place to foster knowledge and intellectual growth and is a place opportunity which extends beyond collection of books.
While adding that modern technology provides people with ready information, Khezhie however said that the internet is flooded with information and may not provide information of both sides and may not be relevant.
Khezhie also said books prepare us not just for exams and more reading gives a person more indepth knowledge and widens one's perspective.
