Dimapur, April 12 (MExN): Voicing support for youth organizations, village councils and other mass based organizations of Medziphema area, the JD (U) Nagaland has urged ECI company to immediately comply with environmental norms and check the rising dust pollution caused by the ongoing four-lane project works.
The Medziphema Town Youth Organisation (MTYO) on April 8 issued a statement highlighting the plight of residents of Medziphema who are facing “hazardous dust pollution” caused from the ongoing four-lane project works. The MTYO in their statement had censured ECI – the contractor working between Patkai Bridge and Piphema – for their “continued lackadaisical, self-centered attitude” and demanded that the company “initiate and implement appropriate measures to arrest the unprecedented level of dust pollution.”
On Thursday, the JDU Nagaland expressed concern on the plight of the people and called on ECI Company to fully comply with all national, state and local environmental laws.
Contending that the ECI company has obligations to the health issues/hazards caused by dust pollution, the party appealed the company to immediately comply with the environmental norms in the MOU of the contract.
The JD (U) Nagaland viewed that the NHAI had allotted the contract work of the said stretch to ECI after having examined the reputation and integrity of the company. “Therefore it is now upon the ECI Company to maintain the commitment with integrity for corporate compliance with the terms and condition which have been agreed upon by the company,” the JD (U) held.
Apart from compliance with the environmental norms, the JD (U) also impressed upon the ECI Company to take up corporate social responsibility activities that will benefit the people of the affected areas. “The JD (U) is confident that on adherence to such obligations the company will earn the confidence and reputation from the people which itself has an output of a continued success for the company,” it added.
