‘Opposes recognition of any tribe from other states’
KOHIMA, MAY 13 (MExN): The third consultative meeting of “concern Nagaland tribe leaders” held on May 10 at Hotel Japfu in Kohima “unanimously resolved to move for de-recognition of the Rongmei as a recognized tribe in the state of Nagaland.” It also resolved to “oppose the government move for recognition of Mao tribe” and to “oppose recognition of any tribe from other states as a recognized tribe in the state.” A press note by the Sessional Convener, Yesonu Veyie and the Sessional Secretary, Imitinochet informed that the meeting was attended by members of the Angami, Ao, Chakesang, Lotha, Sumi, Zeliang tribes and the ENPO. It said the members deliberated on the government notification of constituting a committee to look into the representation of the Mao tribe in Nagaland. The meeting constituted of a six member co-ordination committee to further pursue the matter headed by Pious Lotha as Convener and Theja Therieh as Secretary. Thepfulhouvi Solo, Akang Ao, Toniho Yeptho and Kengim Kulubi have also been included as committee members. The next round of meeting will be on May 25 at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur.
