Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): Nagaland leaders have mourned the demise of Karunanidhi, veteran political leader from Tamil Nadu. He passed away on August 7 at the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio while mourning the demise of DMK President and five-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said he was one of the tallest leaders who made significant contributions to the development of Tamil Nadu and towards the progress of the country. “He has few parallels and was an iconic leader of a regional party that achieved recognition even at the national level and was an inspiration to the entire political class, especially to regional parties all over the country.”
The Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton in another condolence message stated, “As a doyen of politics, he (Karunanidhi) exercised ample influence in choosing Prime Ministers of the country at different times. The DMK under the leadership of the nonagenarian leader as its President had played enormous role in Tamil Nadu politics which the people will continue to remember for long.” Patton also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and Tamilians across the globe. Meanwhile, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) said, “Late Karunanidhi’s illustrious journey as an accomplished writer and five times Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and ten times President of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won him the hearts of many Tamilians as well as people of other regions of the country.” In a release from its President Chingwang Konyak, the party further conveyed condolences to the people of Tamil Nadu and Tamilians around the world.
