Cong condemns ''attack'' on party leader in Tripura

Imphal, August 26 (PTI): The Congress on Wednesday condemned the alleged attack on a senior party leader in Tripura and urged the state government to enhance his security cover.

In a statement, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei said that former state minister and former Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Birajit Sinha was allegedly attacked by unknown people thrice this year, including once on Tuesday.

Condemning the incident, Meitei also urged Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to strengthen the security cover provided to Sinha.

"I telephoned Sinha and he told me that he had been attacked thrice this year," he said.

Sinha was allegedly attacked by some unknown people at a place called Majilishpur when he was travelling from Agartala to Kailasahar Tuesday evening.
