DIMAPUR, AUGUST 29 (MExN): The Congress has submitted a representation to the Governor of Nagaland against the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Ministry on serious breach of the Constitution and demands for dismissal of the DAN Ministry.
In a press statement, I. Imkong, Leader of Opposition, Nagaland stated that Independence Day is observed with much respect, dignity and honor to commemorate the struggle and sacrifice made by freedom fighters of the country who fought to free India from the clutches of the British rule and added that in recognition of their contribution Independence Day is observed on 15th August annually.
Imkong pointed out the recent incident in Tuensang, Nagaland where the DAN government had failed to observe the 59th Independence Day Celebration at the official venue due to boycott called by certain organizations, which reflect the weakness, inability and failure of the State Government to protect and uphold a patriotic event which is of national pride.
He also stated that during the Independence Day Celebration at Dimapur, a skit play depicting Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh been carried in a “Thela” (cart) with tricolor national flag flown up-side-down and saluting physically challenged audience has shocked the intelligence of the Nagas. “The drama has projected the Prime Minister in poor light. The very fact that the government machineries were unable to detect and check such incidences shows the insincerity and gross failure of the government and its deliberate attempt to undermine the sovereignty and integrity of India,” Imkong stated in a release.
He also stated that the DAN government has no moral right to continue in office as the government has forfeited the oath undertaken by them at the time of their induction into office and added that a government which fails to protect the fundamental interest of the nation, and whose loyalty to the nation becomes questionable cannot be allowed to remain in office. He further urged the Governor to intervene in the matter in the best interest of the people and dismiss the DAN Government without delay.
