KOHIMA, APRIL 2 (MExN): Former Congress candidate for 11 Northern Angami – II A/C, Kevise Sogotsu, has hit out at Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, for wasting the state’s resources to fund his election campaigns in other states, at the cost of development of the state and his constituency.
Kicking off the election campaign of Lok Sabha Congress candidate, KV Pusa, in Northern Angami –II A/C on Wednesday, Kevise in his address at Teichüma and Tsiemekhuma villages said the chief minister who was elected by public of Northern Angami –II A/C has now completely deserted them and that instead of first seeking blessings from his constituency people, Rio was busy campaigning in other states.
“Rio is always busy campaigning in Manipur and other NE states spending huge money on these campaigns. It would have been better if he utilized the money for development and welfare of his people. Whereas Rio is wasting money in other states, many of our constituency people cannot afford even a kilo of pork or milk powder,” the former Congress candidate said.
Kevise contested against Rio in the last assembly election in 2013.
“Instead of personally coming and seeking blessings from his constituency people for the Lok Sabha election, he (Rio) is sending his ‘yes men’ and contractors to every village in our constituency to campaign for him,” Kevise said.
He said that Rio’s agents who are campaigning for him are not doing so in the interest of the people but for their own “vested interests” and flattering the villagers to clear their own ways. “These agents (contractors) campaigning only because they want their pending bills to be released,” Kevise added.
The chief minister’s rival however cautioned that once the Congress comes to power or wins the assembly seat vacated by Rio, the latter’s “agents would face the music as payment of bills would depend on the quality of works executed.”
