Cong flays Shurhozelie for dragging Raj Bhavan

DIMAPUR, JUNE 4 (MExN): Breaking its silence over the recent unfolding political development, the Opposition Congress has taken NPF President Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu to task for what it termed as dragging the good office of the Governor into the entire ‘controversy.’ Further, the Congress reminded the 10 NPF legislators who had retracted their support for an alternative government under Z. Obed that they cannot deny involvement of putting their signatures against Rio’s leadership, which proved, Rio has lost confidence of majority support from DAN legislators and have no moral right to remain in office.

In a statement received here NPCC President Hokheto Sumi likewise expressed dismay that Dr Shurhozelie after taking oath of allegiance to the Constitution of India is now trying to teach the ‘Raj Bhavan’ of the role and functions of the Constitutional Head of the State. “Dr. Shurhozelie has no authority whatsoever to interfere and question the powers and functions of the Governor provided under the law whose bounded duty is to protect and uphold the Constitution”, Sumi stated.

Taking up issue with his NPF counterpart, the Congress President reminded the NPF president that after Z. Obed’s group staked claim to form government, the 10 (ten) NPF legislators went to Governor to withdraw their signatures they have put in support of Z. Obed’s leadership. “In such circumstances, why NPF president did not stop the 10 NPF legislators to go to Governor for withdrawal of signatures in support of Z. Obed, if such matter can be decided within the party forum” Sumi questioned.

On the retracting statement made by the 10 NPF legislators, the Congress pointed out that their claim that they had signed under duress “is very difficult to trust in political games”. The NPCC cautioned that the same reason can be coined by the group when they want to shift loyalty to some other leaders.
