The Congress in Nagaland is all set to restart the process of revamping the party’s organisational setup. Barring Dimapur and Wokha, the party has reorganised leadership structure at the district levels. The Congress is said to be facing problems in 39 A/C Sanis and Dimapur-III, as a result of which party election in the two districts have been kept on hold. Overhaul at the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) level is slated for later this month.

According to reliable sources, two Congress heavyweights are up against each other for the post NPCC president. Sitting MLA’s SI Jamir and I Imkong, who is also the present NPCC president are in the race, sources confirmed. Imkong confirmed that he would be re-contesting as president again.

Although there is no hard and fast rule that a legislature cannot become PCC president, source within the Congress said that ‘there is a general consensus that a non-legislature should be the president.’ Sources added that ‘some party workers feel it would do the party good.’ However, Congress legislatures have rubbished the report and said it is a ‘non-issue.’ The NPCC president said that ‘some non-MLAs’ interested in the post are coming up with the issue. Sources have said that beside Jamir and Imkong, no one else expressed interest to contest.

The Congress is reorganising the party setup right from the AICC level. Opposition leader Tokheho Yepthomi informed that the Congress Working Committee would be meeting on July 20 to fix dates for the state PCC elections.
