Dimapur, January 7 (MExN): The NPF has reiterated that the imposition of “President’s Rule (army rule) in Nagaland is totally undemocratic and nothing but murder of democracy”. In a press note issued by its General Secretary Dr Kath, the NPF also pointed out that the “question of the DAN government becoming a minority is absolutely baseless and false” and stated that the DAN Government defeated the no-confidence motion moved by the Congress as per the Anti-Defection Law in letter and spirit. “This law and the 91st Amendment are clear that a total of two thirds majority is required to split a party and any individual or group of members who are less than two thirds cannot vote against the party whip”, the NPF maintained.
The NPF also stated that the Congress, knowing fully well that that it’s arguments hold no water refused to go to a court of law but rather marched to Delhi and its party high command demanding for imposition of martial law upon the Naga people. “No matter what the Congress leaders say, the fact remains that President’s Rule was imposed on the Naga people due to the efforts of the Congress leaders of Nagaland”, it stated while further adding that the Congress leaders pressured the Centre to impose army rule since the Congress was well aware of their poor prospects in the forthcoming elections. However, despite what it termed as “injustice”, the NPF stated that it was confident of facing the people’s court and pointed out that the mandate and goodwill of the people is with the NPF. “The wisdom of the Naga people cannot be undermined and they will judge which party and which leaders have genuine concern for Nagas. It is for the people to judge whether a party that brings army rule to Nagaland is genuinely concerned for the people or not”, the NPF stated and reiterated that the Congress was fully responsible for bringing “the PR Package to Nagaland” and that any amount of trying to come up with other explanations will not be accepted by the people.
