Dimapur | February 11
Continuing the media blitz against the BJP-NDPP combine, the Indian National Congress, trained the gun on the state government’s poor showing in the energy sector. At a press conference on February 11, Pradesh Congress Secretary and Spokesperson, Temjenyanger Longkumer alongwith Chairman of the Communications Department, Wezote Kreo raised concerns about the difficulties faced by the people due to the erratic power supply.
With perpetual “load shedding” and facing the worst power supply situation in the country, Longkumer equated the situation to that of a “dark era.” “We have been victims of poor power supply and it is going from bad to worse,” he said.
At Rs 4.5 to 7 per KWH, he added that the power tariff in Nagaland is one of the highest in the country.
According to him, the situation is affecting the growth of industry and commerce, especially in Dimapur, which is regarded as the commercial centre of the state. He questioned the state government as to why the state was not getting sufficient electricity supply and why generation capacity was not being increased.
Kreo expressed irony in the fact that the Advisor for Power is from Dimapur and yet the commercial hub of the state is facing the worst power supply situation. He stated that the state's growth is being hampered due to the lack of stable power supply.
While blaming the state government for not doing its job properly, he said that children have to study in the dark, talented individuals forced to sit idle at home and businesses having to fork out additional expenses to buy diesel to power up generators.
Terming the Congress as a party that lives up to its promises, he said the party will implement the promises made in their manifesto, if voted to power, and called on the voters to “to take the right decision to vote a government to power which can provide the basics to the people.”
