Nagaland Chief Minister, TR Zeliang, today disclosed that construction of new bridges over the Chathe River near Christian Institute of Health & Science Research (CIHSR), 4th Mile, and over the Dhansiri River at Nagarjan (Kuda), would commence within a week’s time.

The Chief Minister said since funds and work orders for construction of the two bridges had already been sanctioned and allotted, there was no reason why works should not start at the earliest.

Interacting with media persons after inspecting the temporary footbridge at 4th Mile and a newly constructed bamboo bridge over the Chathe River at Eralibil, Zeliang said the contractor in-charge of 4th Mile Bridge informed that workers are already camping at the site and getting set to undertake the foundation works.

Similarly, construction works of a new bridge at Nagarjan would commence at the same time, he said. Zeliang said the existing dilapidated Nagarjan Bridge has to be dismantled and a new bridge constructed at the same location as there was no fund provision to acquire new land. Earlier, there were proposals that the 90-year-old bridge build during the British time be preserved as a heritage.

The Chief Minister said the footbridge at 4th Mile was serving the purpose, especially for school going children. During inspection of the newly built bamboo bridge at Eralibil connecting Niuland and Kuhuboto sub-division, the chief minister suggested for widening both entrances of the bridge for convenience of light vehicles to ply over the bridge.

Both the footbridge and bamboo bridge were constructed with fund provided by the National Disaster Response Force.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister was accompanied by his cabinet colleagues including R&B minister, Dr. Nicky Kire and Power minister, Kipili Sangtam.
