Cops arrest youth with heroin powder Rs 24 lakh in Manipur

Police in Manipur have arrested an alleged drug peddler with heroin powder worth over Rs 24 lakh in the international market, police said on Monday.

The arrested youth was identified as Md Nawaj Khan (27) of Thoubal district. 

A team of Porompat police station of Imphal East district arrested the youth from Thiyam Saijin Pallak under Irilbung police station of the district last night, around 11:20 pm.

Addressing reporters, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Porompat police station, inspector Th Ibotombi said that the operation was launched based on reliable information on the movement of drug peddlers in the area. A police team was deployed there to conduct frisking and checking and the team intercepted a youth on a two-wheeler at around 11:20 pm.

Upon frisking, a polythene bag containing 10 soap cases containing suspected Heroin powder was found in the toolbox of the two-wheeler, he said.

The seized heroin powder weighed about 120 grams. It would be worth over Rs 24 lakh in the international market, he further said.
