‘Corruption, a threat to Nagas in Myanmar’

Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): Making serious allegations of corruption, an Observer from the ‘Naga Area Development Myanmar’, National League for Democracy party, said that the ‘so-called representatives’ of the Nagas in Myanmar just “eat up public funds which is meant for development.”

The Observer identified as U Khin Aung Kyaw, in a press statement received here today, stated that “even at this initial point of time, Nagas living in Myanmar suffer from corruption in the hands of their own elected representatives.” “It is so sad to feel “Wolf in a Sheep Skin” at home. The so called representatives come in the form of leader just to eat up public funds which is meant for development,” said the Observer.

Pointing out that the common people find little hope in developmental activities, the Observer stated that the sanctioned amount for development of Naga areas which are supposed to be utilized through public agencies or Business Companies finds its way in the hands of some “Hluttaw” members of Naga Self Administered Zone. He alleged that the leaders utilize only 10-20 percent of the sanctioned amount and the rest disappear on many occasion. He said that the common people feel cheated by their own leaders.

Saying that conditions in Naga Self Administered Zone still remain pathetic because of the ‘fall-off’ between the “hands of government” and the “mouth of common people,” the Observer suggested the Government set up proper verification in every development work, so that the government efforts to develop the country will not prove futile. The Observer, however, stated that he shall maintain strict vigil over all activities for the betterment of Naga Homeland.
